Lexical Cohesion in Undergraduate Theses: AQuantitative Study in an Indonesian University

This study undertook a detailed analysis of the representation lexical cohesion within research background sections undergraduate theses at an Indonesian university. Utilizing quantitative approach, aimed to investigate frequency and percentage distribution devices employed by students in their writing. The primary data collection tool was note-taking, with drawn from selection submitted English Language Education. revealed that repetition predominant strategy, accounting for 93% instances. It followed lesser-used strategies, such as synonym use (4%), collocation (2%), superordinate terms (1%). However, has its limitations; findings were specific one group single university context based solely on theses, thus potentially lacking wider applicability. implications highlight necessity increase students' awareness application diverse devices.
